Fall Sports - Winter Sports - Spring Sports - Registration - Contact
The Church Athletic Department provides sports  activities in soccer, football, baseball, softball, t-ball and basketball for children ages JK - 4th grade. We may also provide in these areas, adult and high school sports, based on demand.

Grace St. Luke’s belongs to several church leagues which offer the best all-around conditions for Christian team sports. Our purpose is to provide for athletic competition which promotes and develops enjoyable and exciting experiences for the players. It focuses on the players having fun, receiving instruction in sports fundamentals and providing a healthy and wholesome Christian environment in which to participate. Our policy is that each child is to play a minimum of 50% per game, e.g. a player will play a minimum of 2 quarters of a 4 quarter game.

GSL teams are placed in different leagues according to their needs, individual ability and the desire to challenge players to excel. All of the JK - 4th grade church teams are part of a feeder system which prepares them for the middle school sports (5th - 8th grade). To promote fairness, recreational team assignments are made according to the individual players' school grade and ability.

GSL Church coaches are Volunteer Parent Coaches. This is the traditional format for recreational leagues, but efforts are made to equip coaches with knowledge and assistance to give excellent coaching.

The Church Athletic Committee consists of approximately seven members and meets quarterly, or as needed, to make many important decisions in the athletic department.

Dear GSL Church Sports Parents,

A recent GSL Church Sports Survey conveyed that many of you strongly suggested offering on-line sports registration. We simply do not have capability to offer this at this time, primarily due to the inability to receive electronic checks for registration fees. As you may recall, the policy is that registrations are not deemed acceptable unless the fee check is with the registration form. We will keep you informed as to this technology will be available through the GSL Church. We are looking into it, but it must be seen in terms of the overall needs of the church.

Thanks so much for your valuable feedback and I look forward to working with you and your children in the future.

Christi Authement

GSL CHURCH BASEBALL/SOFTBALL & T-BALL
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2009

TOP 10 CHECK LIST

1)  TEAM ASSIGNMENTS are made according to an individual’s school grade and ability, with an effort to make the teams as even as possible.
2)   By tradition, recreational league coaches are VOLUNTEER PARENT COACHES.  We make every effort to equip coaches with knowledge and assistance in order to provide quality coaching.
3)   PRACTICES could begin as early as Wednesday April 1, and are most often held at the GSL field.  Your coach will contact you when he/she receives the team roster by mid March.  Coaches generally have one/two practices per week.  Please contact Christi if you have not heard from your coach by mid March.
4)  COACHES EXPECTATIONS may vary depending on the coach.  As part of the commitment to play this season, the coaches will expect that you not only make practices and games a priority, but that you be at the practices and games in a timely fashion.  Playing for a team is not only an individual commitment, but it is also a team commitment.  The coaches will have a parent meeting at the beginning of the season to discuss expectations from parents and coaches.  This will also be a time to go over team rules, etc.
5)   The SEASON BEGINS the 1st or 2nd week in May.  There will be 2 games per week (Mon/Thur or Tue/Fri).  There will be home games (at the GSL field off of Harbert), as well as away games.  The season will end at the end of June.
6)   TEAM PICTURES  TBA.  Pictures will be distributed by the coaches at the end of the season.
7)   UNIFORMS are provided by GSL.  The Uniforms will be distributed by the coaches in a timely fashion.  Uniforms will be returned to the coaches at the end of the season, which will ensure that you receive your team trophies and pictures.  Uniforms must be returned to the coaches at the end of the season!
8)   GSL RECYCLES UNIFORMS each year to keep the replacement costs low.
9)   TROPHIES will be provided by GSL.  The coaches will distribute the trophies at the end of the season.
10)       Many teams have an END OF THE YEAR PARTY, which is organized by the parents.  This is a great opportunity for coaches to give out pictures, trophies and collect all uniforms!
*    SOCCER REGISTRATION will go out in May.  It is on a first come first served basis and will fill-up quickly!

If you have any questions please contact Christi Authement at 272-7425 ext. 22, 825-7353 or e-mail to christi@gslparish.org.
